Cheyenne slept 6 straight hours last night, which technically is "sleeping through the night." I am psyched! I'm really suprised too, considering the awful afternoon we had. Cheyenne missed her 1st afternoon nap which made her overtired so she didn't get a 2nd afternoon nap and it just snowballed from there. She was fussy all night. This had happened before and that night she was up every 1/2 hour to 1 1/2. It was awful. I just knew I was in for another night of that. I'm been trying to follow the routine from the book "The Baby Whisperer." It really works. I watch for Cheyenne's tired cues and put her down before she gets overtired. I don't always catch them but I'm getting better! So last night I finally found a blanket that wasn't too thick and big enough to swaddle her in. I thought I'd give that a shot. I had stopped swaddling her around 2-3 weeks because she was too big for the receiving blankets I had and she wiggled out. I just figured she didn't like it anymore. I fed her at 9, she was done at 9:30 and by 9:45 she was asleep. I layed her down and watched her for a few minutes. Usually within 10 minutes or so she will jolt herself awake. Since she was swaddled, the jerks weren't as bad and she stayed asleep. I layed down in the bed and listened for her to wake up. Next thing I know, she starts making cooing noises and I look at the clock and it's 4am! I looked over at her and she was rooting so I knew she was hungry. So I fed her and re-swaddled her and layed her back down. She drifted off to sleep all on her own. Just when I think that I'm losing my mind and don't know what to do, it all comes together. I really feel good now about what I've been doing with her, and the hard work of keeping her on a routine has finally paid off. Let's cross our fingers that this wasn't just a 1 night thing and she'll continue!
