When it gets quiet, something is wrong!

You know that saying "If it gets quiet, something is wrong"? Well that's been the case a lot lately. Most recently this morning. William had to work this morning so I had Cheyenne by myself. I had a hair appointment to get to and I was going to drop Cheyenne off at mom's. I can usually get a 5 minute shower when Cheyenne is awake. I just close all the doors so she can't go anywhere and put a bunch of toys in the floor. Usually she does great. Well this morning I had left a jar of vaseline out and apparently within her reach. I had put some on some chapped skin she had from this cold windy weather. Anyway, I didn't hear her playing so I looked over and she had her back to me. I opened the shower door and said her name and she turned around and that's when I just laughed. She was covered in vaseline! From her hair to her toes. She was having a ball in it. It made me think of my cousin Amanda telling me about Aidan getting into her lotion one time. It was funny, but of course we had to get all that out of her hair, which wasn't much fun. Ah, the joy of toddlerhood!

1 Year Old

Cheyenne had her 1 year checkup this morning. She weighs 23.6 lbs and is 28 3/4" tall. At birth Cheyenne was 7 lbs 7 oz and was 19 3/4" long. She has really grown this past year! She received vaccinations today. One in each arm and one in each leg. Great way to celebrate a 1st birthday, huh?

So at 1 year Cheyenne can do most anything. She "talks." She can shake her head "no" and nod "yes." She waves her hand to say hello and goodbye. She recognizes songs like pat-a-cake and the Wheels on the Bus and does the motions just like me. She is starting to imitate William and I. She will "cruise" from one thing to another but has yet to take her first step without holding on to anything. She can stand on her own, if she wants to. Most of the time she'll just drop and crawl. She is a fast crawler! She's into everything; cabinets, drawers and whatever William and I are doing she wants to be included too. She can get jealous. If I'm holding another baby, she doesn't like it. Lately if she sees William hug me or show attention to me she stops and stares and makes a whiney noise. She doesn't like it. I think she's a little protective of me...or she thinks that she's the only one that gets attention from me. That's going to have to change when the new baby gets here at the end of summer! Cheyenne takes 1 long nap everyday, usually of about 2 hours or so. Sometimes she needs 15 or 20 minutes in the morning which she usually does in the car while we're out. She sleeps about 11.5 hours at night and sleeps with her blankie. The thing is her best friend. Cheyenne is an active toddler and loves playgroups and her Little Gym class as well as swimming at the YMCA. I put together a short slideshow of Cheyenne's 1st year to the right. Enjoy!

Cheyenne's 1st Birthday!

Yesterday was Cheyenne's 1st Birthday. It's amazing that 1 year had already past since she's been born. It has been a wonderful year of firsts and a year of learning on myself and William's part. Cheyenne started her day with a special breakfast of a gravy biscuit and eggs. We took her to party city to get some birthday balloons and her party started at 4:00. We had some friends and family over. We had hot dogs, burgers, and baked potatoes as well as cupcakes. As you can see Cheyenne loved hers! We feel so blessed to have this little girl in our lives and look forward to the next year..the 1st year of toddlerhood! Cheyenne will go for her 1 year checkup this morning. Happy Birthday Cheyenne! New Teeth

Two more teeth have broke through. The next 2 on the top are just barely out of the gums. I didn't even notice because we've been dealing with the ear infection. No wonder she's been super whiney lately. So that makes 8 teeth! I know I haven't posted many pictures lately. Cheyenne just hasn't been cooperative. I'll definetly post some of her birthday party Sunday!

Another ear infection

Cheyenne has another ear infection. She spiked a fever of 103.5 yesterday and was really lethargic and whiney. She woke up at 6 this morning with a fever of 103.2. I got her a doctor's appointment and her right ear is infected. She has dozed on and off for most of the day. We've been in and out of doctor's offices. We're finally home for good and she's trying to nap. But she wakes every 30 minutes screaming. I just don't know what to do for her. Hopefully once her medicine starts working she'll be feeling a little better.

A bit of bad news

We have a bit of bad news. On Friday night after we put Cheyenne to bed, Katie came over and stayed with her and William and I took his dog Jackson to the emergency clinic. Jackson is William's husky that he got 12 years ago after getting out of the Navy. He had been living with Katherine when William was in the condo. William's best friend Jason is a vet at the clinic and he met us there to look at him. Jackson had not been eating and did nothing but lay outside on his bed. He wouldn't come in, even in the freezing weather. Katherine told us he wasn't doing well so we took him in to have him checked out. Jason did some blood work and x-rays and found that it was his liver. He had a large cancerous tumor. It was finally decided with the info we had that it would be better for Jackson to let him go. We are sad to lose him but we know now that he isn't suffering.

Pregnancy Update

So we're about 9 weeks along. Still really early but man has the "morning sickness" been mean to me. I don't know who came up with the term but they should be shot. Morning, afternoon, evening, middle of the night, you name it. It's strange cause I hardly had any with Cheyenne. I've been very tired as well. I guess running around after Cheyenne is more exhausting than I thought. I tried to lay down to take a nap today when she napped but I just couldn't get to sleep. I layed there the whole 2 hours..at least I was resting though. I go to the doc tomorrow to do the OB interview, then in 3 weeks we'll go do an ultrasound to test for spina bifida, Down's, etc. Exciting but scary at the same time. You don't ever want to find out bad news.... Anyway, other than that we're just looking forward to Cheyenne's birthday on the 25th! My little girl is going to be 1!

Last minute Beach trip

The beautiful sunrise. Getting dressed and changing diapers has become a real challenge lately....need I say more?

Thursday morning when we woke up and were laying in the bed, I said "Let's go to the beach." We checked the weather and it was supposed to be nice so I started packing and William went into work to finish up some things. We left around 1:00. We used to do things like this all the time. Just decide to do something and go. It's a little harder now with Cheyenne but it's been a great mini vacation. Although with an "almost toddler" no vacation is a vacation. It's usually more exhausting than being at home! Chey adapted really well to sleeping in the pack and play away from home and is having a ball swimming in the indoor pool. She even made a friend today, a 3 year old, "Jake." It's been a good trip for the most part. William did get a phone call from work yesterday and had to work for a couple hours. It never fails. We can't go anywhere without something happening at work. Anyway, here's a few pictures from out trip. We're coming home tomorrow.
