Emma's 1st Birthday

This afternoon Emma had her 1st birthday party! There were lots of friends and family. Chey was even a little nervous at first with all the people, but she quickly got over that and had a great time. I can't believe Emma is a year old already and she's walking. She's really growing up!
I didn't get to see Emma opening her presents, I was inside feeding Hailey and keeping Cheyenne occupied, otherwise she would want to "help" Emma with her presents. Katie took this and it's a great picture!

Cheyenne's 1st Horse Ride

Before heading over to Grandma Lucie's for her birthday cookout, I took Cheyenne to Summerfield Park. They were having the Grand Opening of Phase 2 of the park. They had all kids of stuff there. Face painting, bands, popcorn, games, pony rides. Cheyenne got to ride a horse for the 1st time! She did amazing. She really is fearless.

Popcorn!
Ring Toss. Cheyenne won a lollipop!

Sweet Hailey

Going For A Walk

The past few days have been so nice that I've wanted to get outside and walk. Well, it's still too warm to keep Hailey in the Moby Wrap for too long so I thought about getting a double stroller. Chey doesn't like to stay in one for more than 20 minutes or so, so I was leary about spending $200 on one. I found this one at a consignment shop in Greensboro for $40! I took them out in it that morning and Chey rode in the front for 45 minutes. Then last night, William and I took them for a walk in it around the neighborhood. It's a little dated but it does the trick.

Hollifield Household is Sick

Except for me! Chey came down a with a cold on Thursday and William on Friday. It hasn't slowed Chey down one bit..in fact she's just got the runny nose, since Friday. Other than that, she's unstoppable! But she gave it to her sister. That's right, Hailey has her 1st cold at 3 1/2 weeks, and because her sinus area is so small, she developed an ear infection in both ears! Talk about a tough 1st month! She's on antibiotics and acts like she feels better.

On another nose, Chey has her openhouse for preschool in the morning where she gets to meet her teacher. Her first day will be next Wednesday. Please pray that it will be a smooth transition for her, and for me! My baby is growing up!

Yay for sleep!

It's been a little while since I've made a post. Sorry about that but last night was the first night that I've gotten any sleep in almost a week! Something has been going on with Cheyenne and she had been getting up 3 or 4 times a night. I think maybe it's her 2 year molars, but I gave her tylenol or motrin and she still got up. She only woke once last night at 10:30 so I guess thats better. Hailey had a rough week too. She is waking twice a night for feeds but with the exception of last night would be awake for an hour or so afterward to battle gas fits all night long. But she actually went straight back to sleep after eating at 1:45 last night. So I got to sleep from 10-1:45 and then 2:30 to 5:30! I feel like a new person. Not too much else going on. That's pretty much my life right now. Get the girls up and fed, change a diaper, then change the other, get down for a nap, repeat. Cheyenne had her very last Little Gym class yesterday. The summer semester is over and she's not going this fall since she'll have preschool which she starts on a week and a half. I'm really sad about it but also very excited! I have a few new pictures, I'll post them when I get time.

Getting Settled

Miss Hailey

Hailey's Room

So Hailey is now a little over 2 weeks old. Things are going pretty well. She's been a fairly easy baby so far. She has done 5-6 hours between feeds at night the last couple of nights which I am amazed at. Cheyenne didn't do that for weeks. She's gotten herself into a pretty good routine. She wakes up around 8:30am. Cheyenne gets up at 8:00 and that gives me time to dress her and give her breakfast before feeding Hailey. She'll then stay up for around an hour to an hour and a half and then nap for about an hour and a half. So she's nursing every 3 hours or so. Cheyenne is usually in bed by 8:15 and I nurse Hailey at 8:30 and she's usually asleep by 9:15-9:30. This routine is working really well for us. I'm sure it'll all change though! Cheyenne is still adjusting to having to share me. The worst is when I'm nursing Hailey. It's taking around 45 minutes to feed and burp her and of course that's when Cheyenne wants my full attention. She's watching WAY too much t.v. lately but that seems to be the only thing that holds her attention so I can feed Hailey. So I turn it off the rest of the day and she only gets to watch when I'm nursing. I'm doing what I can to spend time with Cheyenne when Hailey is napping and not worry about doing chores. I got a Moby Wrap http://www.mobywrap.com/ to put Hailey in when I need my hands free and I love it! I can just pop her in and go outside with Cheyenne. It's a lifesaver when Hailey's fussy and I need to cook dinner, etc. I wish I had it when Cheyenne was a baby!

William has been a big help. He took Chey to the park for a couple hours this afternoon while I got the house cleaned. It's good for Cheyenne to spend time with her daddy and it's great for me to have some time away... We don't get a minute together until both girls are in bed for the night and we're exhausted by then! We usually watch a little t.v. and crash. I have gotten lucky a couple days this week and both of them have napped at the same time! Chey from 1-3 and Hailey from 1-2:30. That hour and a half is bure bliss!

Hailey's 1st Bath

Hailey's cord fell off a few days ago, but we've been so busy, tonight was the first night we've been able to give her a bath. She was a little startled at first by the warm water but seemed to enjoy it. Towards the end, I think she had had enough and wanted her binky. She's all clean and smells so good!

Texas Pete

After dinner we rode up to Center Grove Grill to get some ice cream. We're sitting at the booth enjoying the ice cream when I see Cheyenne grab the squirt bottle of Texas Pete and is drinking it! She immedietly started spitting it out. I bet she doesn't do that again! We quickly got some ice cream in her mouth to help get the hot taste out of her mouth. Too funny.

So far today...

1st time on the playmat!
Hailey napping in her crib for the 1st time

As I type, both girls are in their own rooms, in their own cribs, napping! WOW! I just don't know what to do with myself!

1st Full Day By Myself

Yesterday was my 1st full day with both kids to myself. It was different getting them both up in the morning, fed, dressed, etc. I'm definetly going to have to start getting up an hour or so before them to brush my teeth, shower and do whatever else I need to do, because I don't get a minute to myself until they are both asleep at night. Today I didn't even get a chance to eat until 2:00! As soon as I get done doing something for one, I have to go to the other, it's exhausting! For example today, Cheyenne was eating lunch and got done at 12:45. She usually naps at 1:00. Well while I was cleaning Cheyenne up, Hailey started crying, ready to eat. So I had to feed Hailey, which takes at least 30 minutes. Well by the time I'm doing feeding Hailey, Cheyenne is crying and whining because she's tired. She was even sitting on the stairs with her blanket saying "nap momma, nap." So Cheyenne went down late and woke up cranky... but I guess these are things we're going to have to get used to. Or else I'm going to have to get better at timing. I should've started Cheyenne's lunch earlier I suppose, but Hailey wasn't due to eat until 1:30!

If anyone has any advice on what to do with Cheyenne I'd much appreciate it. She is very, VERY clingy and gets upset when I can't pick her up right when she wants. I took her to the park yesterday, alone. Katie came and stayed with Hailey for an hour. While at the park, Cheyenne was okay, but we stopped at CVS to pick up a couple of things on the way back and she had a fit when all her juice was gone and didn't stop crying until we got home. Not like her at all. The other day at mom's she had a fit for 45 minutes because she couldn't have a snack right after dinner. Usually after a couple of times of telling her no she would move on to something else and forget about it. We ended up leaving because she was so hysterical. I'm doing my best to give her 1 on 1 time but whenever it comes time to feed Hailey she wants in my lap, or to be picked up...I just don't know what to do! I tried getting some special toys out, crayons, a coloring book, but she just wants me. Any ideas or is this just going to take time? She is my baby too and I hate seeing her with her feelings hurt.

What's up with Cheyenne

Hello everybody. Cheyenne here. I guess you all know that I'm a big sister now. I'm not too sure how I feel about it just yet. Hailey can be sweet when she's sleeping but I don't like when she cries, it makes me cry too. I get a little jealous when mommy is feeding the baby and can't hold me. I've bit her a couple of times to get her attention when she was feeding her to get her attention. I got in trouble. But I'll have to give mommy some credit. She's trying really hard to spend time with me. Yesterday we got to play a Dora the Explorer game on the computer! We had alot of fun. On Monday daddy even took me to the Natural Science Center Zoo! I got to pet a goat and see monkeys and a bunny! It was great to just be with daddy. We don't do that too much since daddy has to work. This morning we went by daddy's work to show off Hailey then mommy took me to the park. I got to see a bunch of ducks. I also got to swing and slide. I love going to the park. I'm getting used to having a baby sister. Here's me giving Hailey a kiss.I'm watching Hailey sleep...
I've had a lot of fun playing with this box lately. I sat in for 20 minutes last night and watched Backyardigans with my blankie before bed.

Sponge Bath

After Cheyenne went to bed, I gave Hailey a "sponge bath" just to clean her up a little. She didn't like it at all, but she's all clean now and smells so good. We did take her to the pediatrician yesterday morning for a weight check and she was 6lbs 15 oz, so she hasn't lost that much. She's doing pretty good. Last night we even got a 4 1/2 hour stretch of sleep and then another 4 hours after a feeding. William and I are feeling so much better this morning.

Visitors

Yesterday, we had a few visitors stop by to see and meet Hailey. Our first were Great-Grandma Lucie and my Aunt Linda. Kristie, David and Maggie followed. It was great for Cheyenne to play with the kids, she got out alot of energy! Then Grandma Katherine, Aunt Jessica and Uncle Miles brought tons of food over and visited for a little while. Cheyenne did a little entertaining and dancing around for all of us.

Life with 2

Autumn here, mommy of 2 now, and let me tell you, it's so different. Well, first let me fill you in on the details of Miss Hailey.

On Wednesday I layed down to rest when Cheyenne took her nap. The doorbell rang, (later I found out it was those Jehoviah's Witness people) so I got up. When I stood up, my water broke. I called William at work and he came home. It actually worked out good because Cheyenne napped for another hour after that so we were able to get the car packed and everything ready without her under our feet. We dropped her off at mom and dad's and headed to the hospital. We checked in around 3:00 or so and Hailey was born at 9:03. Talk about quick! They started pitocin around 5:30 or so and at 8:15 I was about 6cm. Just a few minutes later I felt the urge to push and the nurse checked me and said 10cm. It was go time!

Hailey was 7lbs 2 oz and 20 1/4" in. She has a head full of brown hair and blue eyes. I spent both nights alone with her in the hopsital so William could try to get a good night's sleep since he would be taking care of Cheyenne Thursday morning and one of us needed to be rested when we came home. Not much luck there. He has some interesting stories for ya, one being he could pulled over on the way home Thursday night because he fell asleep at a stoplight! The officer was very understanding.

If the nurses and survery people would leave you alone you might actually get a little rest, but at least every hour someone is coming on or calling you to ask you questions. It drove me nuts. We're all home now. Cheyenne's adjusting pretty well. She spent Wednesday night with Jenny, Josh and Emma and Thursday night with my mom and dad and did just fine. She came home last night and William and I spent some 1 on 1 time with her while mom and dad had Hailey. We did her bath, stories and bedtime stuff and she slept all night. Today she has been pretty affectionate, giving hugs and kisses all around but then can turn around and be whiney when I can't hold her or pick her up at the very instant, but all in all, she's doing good. To go back and forth between a newborn and 18 month old is so strange! They are so different.
Nursing is going alot better than it did with Chey. My milk did come in last night and it's been a little uncomfortable but for the most part going well, and knock on wood, will continue to. Well, I better get back to my babies. I'll post pics as I can, but I'm staying pretty busy.
